Jessica Pearless’ Paintress is a vibrant expression of abstraction, bringing together colour, form and movement in an exhibition that considers abstraction as a visual language and way of experiencing and engaging with the world.
Paintress explores relationships between body, material and the creative process. Drawing on decades of artistic practice, Pearless’ works in painting, textile and installation invite contemplation, activation and exchange. Her Wearable Abstraxtions, created from carefully collected and repurposed textiles, transform geometric abstraction into dynamic works that shift between artwork, garment and performance.

120 is a soft sideways scroll through the subconscious world of artist Steve Bolton. As a link between the real and unreal worlds, 120 has a foot in both camps – both the actual and the imagined.
With the paintings present on the walls of the gallery in front of you tangible, actual and real, but drawn down from an internal subconscious dreamscape – from memory, imagination and illusion – as snapshots from the subconscious. Images from an internal world, they are captured seconds and flashes of light from a third place. Neither wholly true, nor entirely imagined – and often not even possible – but made physical in the panels here. Space, time, history, humanity and the spiritual world are all given space. In these 120 painted panels, energy is given form.

A much-loved Tāmaki Makaurau tradition is celebrating a major milestone in 2026, with Auckland Live Morning Melodies returning for its 25th season of monthly Monday morning concerts at the Bruce Mason Centre. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, loyal audiences and consistently high-quality performances, the 2026 season brings together many of the brass bands and ensembles audiences know and love, alongside special highlights marking the 25-year milestone.

Special screening presented by filmmaker Robin Kewell to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of The Eden Project in Cornwall.
The film shows how it all happened, from the seed of an idea through to reality, turning a disused clay-pit into the Eighth Wonder of the World. Over 3,500 hours of footage filmed over seven years, edited down into a 90-minute, 'warts and all' feature documentary. From building the world's biggest greenhouses during the worst weather on record, to procuring and growing the thousands of plants needed to create a tropical rainforest in Cornwall. Filmmaker Robin was given access to all areas of the project throughout this roller coaster ride 'Eden the Inside Story' shows how a dream became a reality. Plus short film 'Pit to Paradise', followed by a Q&A.

The Victoria Theatre has a rich history, dating back to 1912, the era of silent film. Still going strong after 114 years, the Vic is the oldest purpose-built cinema in the southern hemisphere. The Vic has withstood numerous challenges over the last hundred years to emerge as a beloved local venue for films, live shows and special events and is an art deco treasure. The tour will highlight The Vic's past with a focus on film history.

South Island-born Darrell plays the cornet, trumpet and flugelhorn, and is a member of the North Shore Concert Band. For 35 years, he worked for a Swiss engineering company, which researched, manufactured and marketed joint replacement prostheses, requiring travel to Switzerland once or twice each year. At various social functions and events, there were Swiss alphorn players. He got to try and play one on a few occasions, and so it became his dream to own one… In 2019, the dream came true. Darrell will share the story of the Swiss alphorn, how he became a very proud owner of one and bring his ‘prized possession’ to show and even play for us!

As part of the Auckland Heritage Festival, the community parks team, in partnership with The PumpHouse Theatre, is hosting a guided tour of the historic pumphouse and surrounding park. Begin your walk at the historic PumpHouse Theatre, originally built in 1905–1906 as a vital water pumping station that drew water from Lake Pupuke to supply Takapuna and neighbouring North Shore communities, its sturdy brick form and tall chimney a reminder of the infrastructure that supported early settlement. From there, we wander into Killarney Park, where the calm waters of Lake Pupuke reveal a much older story, formed thousands of years ago by volcanic activity. This crater lake is a striking remnant of Auckland’s volcanic field. Its deep freshwater basin and distinctive shape offer a powerful glimpse into the region’s geological past.

Richard is a Councillor for the North Shore on the Auckland Council and Chair of the Policy, Planning and Development Committee. He has led much of the Council’s major policies and strategies, such as the Future Development Strategy, Economic Development Strategy and Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan. Richard is a big supporter of the arts across Tāmaki Makaurau and the Shore. He credits his background in communications, some very amateur stand-up comedy experience, and even winning the drama cup in high school, for setting him up with many creative skills that help him do this job, respond to media, and chair a passionate bunch of personalities around the council table. He says, “There is theatre in everything, and there sure is a lot in politics!”
